A friend of the family was due with a little girl. So I'm worked up a square baby blanket... seed stitched white baby yarn center, with a granny square border. Since I kind of hate pastels and that's all anyone gives babies, I went for the bright pink and lime green soft stuff as accents.

I used the same yarn from the center of the blanket to make a hat to match. Didn't have time for much more before the shower. I added some tiny crocheted flowers in the accent colors to the hat.

Here's a close-up of the hat brim, in durable, washable cotton baby yarn. Lots of pattern designers make baby stuff from cashmere. Come one people... kids are going to puke on this stuff. You gotta make it easy on Mom.
